CAUTION ABOUT PHONE DIRECTORIES, WEB SITES

Be wary using phone directories or Internet Web sites that list movers. Many do not check the credentials or licensing of the movers they list, which could mean you'll pick an unqualified mover outside your area using a fictitious address.

All phone directories and most Web sites charge movers a fee for their ad or listing, whether they are legal or illegal movers. Just because you find a mover in a phone directory or on the Internet doesn't assure you've found a reputable mover. Be safe -- always check a mover's credentials.

Also, be aware that it is unlawful for moving companies to handle moves within New York State without a New York State Department of Transportation license, or without covering employees with Workers Compensation Insurance. New York State law also requires movers to list their DOT certificate number as well as their true business address in all advertising. Some movers evade these laws, pay low wages to unqualified workers and thus cannot provide a professional move. See what can happen if you hire a rogue mover.

All LIMSA members are professionals who are legally licensed and regulated by the New York State Department of Transportation. If they also handle moves between states they are additionally licensed and regulated by the U.S. DOT.

LIMSA members must carry Workers' Compensation Insurance to assure you are not liable for workers' injuries that might occur during your move.
